Okay. So I had to make this post at some point so here it is.

2016 WA Epson AIPP Wedding Photographer of the Year.

Oh boy. While I’m not the most eloquent of bloggers, I will try to put into words how much this means to me without writing a novel 🙂 When I first started my business and going full-time, it was scary and challenging and rewarding. Back then I never imagined I’d be the winner of such an important award and if you told be a week before the competition that I’d be taking out the category, I still wouldn’t have believed you.

Most of you might not be familiar with the competition; Epson State AIPP photography awards, but it’s held in each state of Australia every year. You can have a look at the competition here: http://stateawards.aipp.com.au/WA/2016-WA-awards

In the state awards, you’re up against some of the best photographers in WA, and each image is judged individually on it’s own merit. In the past I had entered mostly the Portrait category but in recent years I tried my hand at the wedding category. I’d come away with a couple of awards from wedding so I was always very happy with that.

This year I thought I’d try something different and really push the envelope with my entries, not knowing how they’d go over with the judges (sometimes they love it, sometimes they hate it). I know from entering the awards, the judges are looking for something creative, so the images I entered are rather different from my usual client work, but they’re still from actual weddings that I’ve photographed.

Winning this award is such an honour – especially since there are so many great photographers in WA. I love entering the awards to see how far I can push the boundaries of photography, but also because it’s fun and seeing other photographer’s work is inspiring. We have some seriously talented people in Perth (and WA!).

Check out my winning images and my award!
